A decades-old mental health and addictions support group in the province has changed its name through a rebranding.
The Consumer Health Awareness Network of Newfoundland and Labrador, formerly known as CHANNAL, will now go by the name Lifewise mental health peer services.
The announcement was made Thursday morning by executive director Brad Glynn at the organization’s offices in the CNIB building on The Boulevard in St. John’s.
Glynn noted Lifewise is run for and by people with mental health and addiction issues.
He says the name change offers an important opportunity to both introduce and reintroduce the community to the important programs and services offered by the organization.
They hope the new name puts a focus on experiential wisdom and knowledge – something freely shared by peer supporters on hand to assist people suffering from mental illness and addictions.
Lifewise will continue to offer peer and family support groups, The Warm Line, wellness workshops and walk-in support throughout the province.
