The town of North River in Conception Bay North has issued a statement regarding what it calls a “financial irregularity” that it recently became aware of.
The statement, posted to the town’s website, indicated that council immediately sought the advice of its legal counsel and Municipal Affairs.
Municipal Affairs officials met with council earlier this week.
The town says that based on the advice received, it has requested that auditors complete a review of the town’s financial records.
In the meantime, town council has accepted the resignation of the town clerk and work is underway to get a suitable replacement.
The council office, which has been closed for over a week will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until a full-time replacement can be found.
The town of North River indicates it will offer a further statement once the review of financial records is complete.
