A notable civil servant on the Burin Peninsula has passed away.

The Town of Grand Bank announced this morning that Deputy mayor Clayton Welsh passed away Friday, after an eight-year battle with cancer.

He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.

Welsh served on the town council for 20 years as both Mayor and Deputy Mayor and was a frequent volunteer with local organizations.

The town says it has lost an “outstanding citizen.”

The flag at Town Hall will be flown at half-mast.

The funeral service will take place at Grand Bank United Church on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
