The city of Mount Pearl’s Backyard Composting Pilot Program is back for another year.
The city says the program, which is being done through a partnership with the MMSB, was a “tremendous success” last year as 15 out of 25 participants were able to divert hundreds of pounds of waste from the landfill.
Residents who sign up will receive a standard composting bin or a tumbler bin, along with a counter collection bin, weigh scale, log sheet, and a quick reference resource kit.
This year’s program has space for 25 new participants. There is a subsidized registration fee of $25 for the standard bin, and $50 for the tumbler. However, this year the city will be reimbursing that fee at the conclusion of the program for any participant who fully completes their obligations during the reporting period.
The registration deadline is May 15.
