A small protest was held outside Confederation Building Saturday to remind government that support announced so far to combat the rising cost of living is doing little to help.
Less than a dozen people showed up to make that point, including Leanne Pitcher and her partner Andrew Webster of Green’s Harbour, Trinity Bay, who tried to promote the event late last week.
They admitted Saturday’s turnout was disappointing, but noted they had to work around their own schedules to make it happen.
They also believe many couldn’t afford to attend for the very reason they were there — the price of gas.

Webster says it gets too real when you can’t afford to eat.
He says when it comes down to it, families, including his own, are starving. He says more support has to come from somewhere to deal with the rising price of gas, and the cost of living in general, whether it’s federal, provincial, or a combination of both.
Saturday’s protest was organized before government announced it was cutting the provincial fuel tax in half and providing one-time subsidies for those who heat their homes with oil.
But protesters insist that’s not enough, saying government could be spending money wiser to help more people.
Meanwhile, Pitcher’s online petition has the support of about 8,000 people.
