The annual Cycle for Sight in support of Fighting Blindness Canada is set for Sunday in Paradise.
The annual event was disrupted over the last two years due to the pandemic but is back to full in-person participation this time around.
Conception Harbour Mayor Craig Williams says it’s a cause that is near and dear to his heart as his Deputy Mayor Lawrence Penney has been diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa.
He and residents of the town have participated in the event both in person and virtually for the last five years.
Riders are being asked to gather at the Bandstand on Sarah Davis Way in Paradise Sunday morning—a change of venue from the original gathering place in Mount Pearl.
The ride will follow the trail system to Seal Cove and back, although there are shorter options available. Williams says the province’s leading expert on hereditary eye diseases, Dr. Jane Green, will also speak at the event.
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning, with the 40 km ride starting at 9:00 a.m. and the 20 km ride at 10:00 a.m.
