Five people have been sent to hospital after a two-vehicle collision along the TCH near Avondale.

The Avondale Fire Department tweeted about the crash near Exit 33 at Middle Gull Pond shortly after 12:30 Sunday afternoon.

Photos from the scene showed the two vehicles — an SUV and a car — off the road and extensively damaged.

Officials say five people were taken to hospital, but the extent of injuries remains unclear.

Crews had to use the jaws of life to remove the injured from both vehicles.

Shortly after 2 p.m., the Avondale crew provided an update that they were leaving the scene, while also thanking their Holyrood colleagues for their assistance.
