The Opposition is questioning the provincial government’s Roads Plan after learning that an independent contractor was forced to take action and pave a segment of the Terra Nova Road in order to safely operate a quarry in the area.
Opposition Transportation critic Barry Petten says the Terra Nova Road, which has been voted the worst road in Atlantic Canada two years running, is suffering from government neglect.
Petten says he’s not aware of any private company having to take such extraordinary measures in order to safely operate their business.
Area MHA Lloyd Parrott says the province has been well aware of the issues with the Terra Nova Road for years but has yet to take action.

(Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Elvis Loveless.)
Transportation Minister Elvis Loveless says Terra Nova Road is on government’s radar and is one of a number of roadways that will be assessed based on a lengthy set of conditions.
In the meantime, Loveless is commending the contractor involved for taking the initiative and drawing the permit to do what needed to be done to meet their needs.
