Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and German Chancellor Olaf Sholz will be in the province tomorrow to sign an agreement on the development of a green hydrogen economy.
The deal will be signed in Stephenville. The exact details are not yet known.
Premier Andrew Furey says having two world leaders come to the province is “absolutely brilliant,” noting that the visit speaks to how exciting things are here right now.
Furey states that the two leaders know the unique opportunity that the province has with respect to wind and hydrogen, noting that we have the resource, a workforce used to operating in a marine climate, and the proximity to Europe.
He says the Germans have been looking to transition away from traditional petroleum products, and while that’s a transition that will happen over several decades it is exciting that Newfoundland and Labrador is on the “leading edge” of it.
