Provincial wildlife officials are highlighting another shocking case of moose meat wasted, this time on the southwest coast.
Resource enforcement officers, responding to a complaint from the public, searched an area of Cabbage Patch Road near Highlands River and found an entire moose carcass dumped in a brook.
Officials discovered that the animal had been shot on the road and then dragged by a vehicle for approximately four kilometres before the carcass was dumped into a brook at the side of the road.
It is believed that the moose was poached sometime between October 11 and 12.
Officials say it is an offence to willfully or intentionally allow the flesh of wildlife that has been taken or killed for food to be destroyed, wasted or spoiled. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or call 1-877-820-0999 anonymously.
