Peak gusts reached in excess of 140 km/h in a wind storm that affected most of the island overnight.
The strongest gusts were recorded in the Port aux Basques and Wreckhouse area according to Environment Canada meteorologist Melissa Field.
The Wreckhouse hit about 150 km/h, Port aux Basques recorded gusts of up to 124, Gander 102, Bonavista 120, and St. John’s International recorded a peak wind gust of 89 km/h.
It’s not clear if the gusty winds contributed to a dramatic accident in the Corner Brook area late yesterday afternoon.
A light pole in a commercial parking lot toppled over, coming down across a number of parked cars. There were no injuries reported.
