St. John’s City Council has approved its capital budget for 2023.
Just over $17.3 million has been allocated for various projects, including construction projects such as the annual grind and patch program, fleet acquisition, intersection improvements at Blackhead Road and Linegar Avenue, traffic calming and safety initiatives, and upgrading field lighting at the Caribou Complex.
Council Lead for Finance and Administration, Ron Ellsworth, says council has taken a balanced approach in terms of how the funds are allocated.
He says the city is facing challenges—it is growing but there is also aging infrastructure. As an example, Ellsworth says with the freezing of the snow being seen this year they are seeing more damage being done to equipment.
