The crisis facing the province’s commercial crab fishery was front and centre in the House of Assembly this afternoon.
Members of the FFAW rejected the latest offer made to harvesters by the Association of Seafood Producers, despite indications that a tentative deal had been reached, brokered with the assistance of the Premier and ministers Bragg and Davis.
Provincial Fisheries Minister Derrick Bragg admitted he thought a deal had been reached in response to questions raised by Opposition Leader David Brazil.
Brazil wanted to know if the Premier will bring the parties back together to get a deal. Minister Bragg admits that the fact that a resolution couldn’t be found was “so unfortunate.” Brazil says the Premier needs to be in the room to help get a resolution to the situation.
