The Crown is once again seeking to have a man found not criminally responsible for his violent actions after an incident on the East Coast Trail last fall.
64-year-old Christopher Sawicki was found guilty of assaulting a woman while she was walking her dog near Fort Amherst.
Sawicki had a crowbar in his hand, but the woman was not physically hurt.
But it raised serious concerns given Sawicki’s violent history and previous bi-polar diagnosis and manic episodes.
Those were the same issues that led to an absolute discharge 13 years ago after he stabbed a man to death in Piccadilly.

He was found not criminally responsible and spent five years at the Waterford Hospital before being released.
Court has heard that Sawicki, who was living in a shelter on the East Coast trail, can be polite and pleasant—when he’s taking his meds.
But he couldn’t get his drugs because he had no I.D., no money and no health card.
That led to delusions including claims he had been granted title to the trail by the Queen herself, at the time.
Sawicki remains in custody pending the outcome of another hearing in June to determine if he is not criminally responsible for his latest run-in with the law.
