It’s the beginning of the end for the Team Gushue highway, which has experienced delay after delay over the years. Construction begins next spring on the final; phase, the 3.5-km stretch from Topsail Road to the Robert E. Howlett Memorial Highway in the Goulds.
The $30 million highway will improve traffic flow in the metro region, providing people with more route options and taking traffic away from residential zones.
The federal and provincial governments will split the cost 50/50.
Transportation Minister Elvis Loveless says the new access point will improve safety and reduce travelling times.
There will be roundabouts at Pitts Memorial, Brookfield Road and Commonwealth Avenue, Brookfield Road will be realigned, and there will be an access to the federal agriculture facility.
Work, which begins next spring, is expected to take about three years.

He says it’s hoped construction will begin next year.
