Today is a big day for the Ukrainian community. It’s Independence Day, and that’s a cause for celebration.
The number of people from the war-torn country who call Newfoundland and Labrador home has increased substantially over the past five years – ever since the Russian invasion.
Independence Day celebrations at Bannerman Park begin in earnest at 4:00 today, but Bruce Lilly of the Ukrainian Federation says there will be things going on even before that.
For anyone who arrives early, there will be face painting and free food items.
The event itself is free of charge and is open to all.
