Several communities on the coast of Labrador won’t be able to avail of the regularly-scheduled summer ferry service because of ice conditions. The MHA for the area is calling on government to arrange for people to travel on the local airline, Air Borealis, but at ferry rates.

Service to Rigolet, Makkovik, Postville, Hopedale, Natuashish and Nain won’t be able to begin until June 18 because of the ice.
None of the communities have road access, so not having ferry service creates all kinds of problems.

Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans says delaying the service not only interrupts people’s travel plans but cancels their summer travel because air travel is unaffordable.
