Independent MHA Paul Lane is calling on government to review its security protocols at public offices following a disturbing incident at Regatta Plaza in St. John’s yesterday.
A 38-year-old man is dead and a police officer was treated in hospital for injuries following a shooting incident yesterday morning.
The matter is under investigation by SIRT-NL. The incident caused the closure of a number of offices including immigration and employment services.

Lane told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, that while the incident is still under investigation, he worries about security protocols in place to protect staff and the public.
He says while SIRT-NL conducts its investigation he hopes that Occupational Health and Safety also conducts an investigation from the perspective of employee safety.
