Food First NL is recommending 23 changes to the shape and role of food charity in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Food First NL released its final report on Rethinking Food Charity in Newfoundland and Labrador this morning, recommending a variety of changes to address things like accessibility, stigma and dignity.
Among the recommendations are calls on government for immediate action on structural changes to reduce the need for food charity.
That includes things like a higher minimum wage, higher income support rates and a basic income.
It also recommends the creation of a five-year Food Charity Transformation Fund to support changes and collaborations within the food charity sector, and long-term funding for a shared food delivery and 211 service.
