The charges keep coming in an ongoing investigation into the alleged sexual assault and exploitation of vulnerable youth in the east end of St. John’s.
Two men—62-year-old Tony Humby and 80-year-old Bruce Escott were arrested in mid April and originally faced a total of five charges.
But RNC said from the start they believe there are more potential victims, hoping publicity around the case would prompt more to come forward. And that appears to be happening.
Additional charges were laid in the past few weeks, bringing the total to five for Escott and 14 against Humby, both of whom remain in custody.
Then this morning, another 10 charges were laid against Humby, who made a brief court appearance before returning to jail.
The new charges are similar to previous ones laid, and include sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, forcible confinement and uttering threats against two male youths.
The development comes as investigators hunker down at the homes of the accused in the Hussey Drive area of the east end, but police won’t say if those new charges are the result of anything uncovered at those locations.
Police believe neighbours Humby and Escott worked in tandem to lure and abuse teenage boys from 2007 to 2021.
Humby is due back in court tomorrow while Escott’s next court date is set for July 13.
