Two cancer survivors are detailing how their friendship has helped them through a difficult journey.
Kelley Button and Lori Power were both on hand to help cut the ribbon at the new chemotherapy unit and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre earlier this week.
Button explains that she had just turned 40 and had three small children when she was first diagnosed.
She didn’t know anybody else going through cancer at the time, and through a mutual friend was introduced to Power, who had also recently been diagnosed.
She says they started their chemotherapy on the same day and had surgeries on the same day. she says it was great to have someone to talk to about what she was going through, and have someone to cry with. she calls Power a “beautiful friend.”
Power says it was difficult to share her emotions with her family because they didn’t fully understand and she didn’t want to frighten them. With Kelley, however, she could call her up to talk about what was happening and would feel better afterwards.
