A Newfoundlander is on the ice this week for the Ottawa Senators’ annual development camp.
Goaltender Riley Mercer of Bay Roberts was one of 36 players selected to attend the camp in the nation’s capital.
The younger brother of New Jersey Devils forward Dawson Mercer went undrafted at this year’s NHL Draft in Nashville and is currently ranked as the 24th best goalie in North America.
Mercer made 22 appearances between the pipes for the Drummondville Voltigeurs during the 2022-2023 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.
This is not the first time the 19-year-old has attended an NHL development camp. In 2022, Mercer was released by the Montreal Canadiens after joining the team on an amateur tryout.
