Memorial University’s student union have brought forward a petition in support of engineering students.
MUNSU has delivered a petition calling for fair wages, effective work term placements and the elimination of differential fees to the President of the university and the Dean of the Engineering faculty.
MUNSU says that international; students have found that the work term fee, paired with low-paying work, higher tuition and restrictions on hours are impacting their academics and well-being.
They call for all engineering students to only have to pay $600 for each work term, work terms to pay at least provincial minimum wage and all placements to be somewhat relevant to engineering.
The petition was signed by 797 students, making up 69 per cent of the Undergraduate Engineering Student Body.
