Parks Canada is holding events all weekend on the west coast to mark the 50th anniversary of Gros Morne National Park.
The festivities begin today with picnic in the park events at three locations: Shallow Bay Day Use Area, Trout river Pond Day Use Area, and Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse.
There will be music, games, prizes, a professional chef, and other activities at each of the locations.
Those events are taking place from 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Tomorrow from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on official ceremony to mark the occasion will be held at the Discovery Centre near Woody Point.
Former Prime Minister Jean Chretien, who signed the agreement to establish the park back in ’73 will be on hand.
As well, area communities will sign an agreement related to a regional approach to tourism in the area.
Admission to Gros Morne National Park this weekend is free.
