A rainfall warning is in affect, with up to 100 mm set to blast the south coast of the island.
Environment Canada is forecasting between 40 to 80 mm for the Burin Peninsula and 50 to 100 mm for areas west of that, including Burgeo, Port aux Basques and Harbour Breton.
Rodney Barney, meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says there is the potential for localized flooding in areas with low drainage, but storm surge should not be an issue.
He says the winds are not overly strong, so they are not expecting a surge for those areas. He does say however, the southeast Avalon may see a swell due to Hurricane Franklin passing offshore.
