A man is in custody following an arson that occurred at an emergency shelter on Howell Avenue in Carmanville on Sunday.
First responders were called to the small blaze at 6:30 Sunday evening. All residents were safely evacuated.
After it was determined that the fire was intentionally set, police arrested 52-year-old Ronald Keats in connection to the alleged offence.
Keats, who has an outstanding arson charge before the court, is now facing new charges of arson including disregard for human life, assault, mischief under $5,000, damage to property, and failing to comply with a release order.
He appeared in court on Monday and was remanded to custody. His next court date is September 13.
