The Journey Project, a program developed to help people who have experienced sexual violence navigate the legal and criminal justice process, has seen an increase in activity in recent months.
The RNC is using a trauma-based approach and is encouraging people who choose to come forward to contact the Journey Project as the investigation into alleged sexual abuse by a metro-area teacher and coach continues.
Dozens of charges have been laid against Markus Hicks and the investigation is still very active.
Legal Support navigator with the Journey Project, Janet Lee says it’s been a very busy time.
She says to-date, they’ve served more than 725 people throughout the province. She says when high-profile cases, like the ones seen in recent weeks, hit the news cycle, it can “bring up a lot of feelings for a lot of people.”
She encourages anyone who wants to reach out to contact them via phone at 1-833-722-2805 or text at 709-986-2801.
