A crash on Pitts Memorial Drive near the TCH cloverleaf has left at least one person in hospital with serious injuries.

The two-vehicle collision forced temporary closure of the four-lane route earlier today.

It happened shortly after 1:30 p.m., causing a long backup of traffic on both sides of the divided highway as first responders rushed to the scene and carried out their work.

Police had urged drivers to avoid the area and find alternate routes to their destinations.

The route has since reopened to traffic.
