Opposition Leader David Brazil says recent comments from Quebec Premier Francois Legault raise greater questions about how far ahead talks with this province are when it comes to hydro development.
Legault first approached this province, open to renegotiating the flawed Upper Churchill contract in hopes of gaining the extra hydro power needed to meet its needs.
Premier Andrew Furey won’t tip his hand as to what’s up for discussion, but Legault has been far more open and forthcoming on discussions underway on the Upper Churchill and Gull Island.
That, says Brazil, raises questions.

He says Legault has indicated that negotiations have gone well and he’s referenced a fifth turbine, and Gull Island, yet “we’ve heard nothing from our government in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Brazil wants to know where the talks are and who is involved.
He says “we need to know if Hydro Quebec and the government of Quebec are negotiating, are the federal government involved?”
