The Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK) a pan-Arctic Inuit organization is working towards a National Inuit Identification Card to ensure that Inuit are able to identify themselves and their land claims enrollment status both in Canada and abroad.
A working group has been formed to engage with government to secure funding and the legislative reform required to move a national-recognized form of identification for Inuit.
The update comes amid growing concerns within both the ITK and the Nunatsiavut Government about the NunatuKavut Community Council’s efforts to access federal funding intended for Inuit-specific programs and services.
The ITK held its AGM in Nain last week.
