The opposition critic for Justice and Public Safety is raising the alarm over what she calls government’s failure to act over worsening conditions at HMP.
Helen Conway-Ottenheimer joins NAPE President Jerry Earle in raising concerns after black mould was found in a portion of the prison, and a corrections officer was injured during an altercation with an inmate.
Conway-Ottenheimer says government has failed to address the compounding needs at the prison.
She says government announced a replacement years ago, but they are still waiting on details.
“Is it going to be another five years?” she questions, saying action is needed from government in the face of worsening conditions.
