Independent MHA Paul Lane is accusing the provincial government of hypocrisy in urging the federal government to reconsider the impact of the carbon tax on rising inflation.
Health Minister Tom Osborne last week reiterated the provincial government’s position that perhaps now is not the time to impose the carbon tax, citing rising inflation and the crunch being felt across the board.
Lane says the provincial government had no problem imposing what he calls the tax grab, for the first two years of the program when the revenue was flowing into the provincial government coffers.
He says now that Ottawa has taken over, and the resulting provincial revenue has dissipated, they’re expressing concern.
That, says Lane is nothing more than hypocrisy and if the province is concerned about the people’s ability to survive, then they should eliminate the sugar tax.
