The Mayor of Port aux Basques has been presented with an award from Music NL.
On September 24, 2022, Hurricane Fiona hit the southwest coast, devastating communities in the area, including Channel-Port aux Basques.
In the weeks that followed, many community groups raised funds for those affected, notably a group of musicians, broadcasters, businesses, and community partners who came together to put off the “We Stand on Guard Again—Hurricane Fiona Benefit Concert”, which raised over $2 million. VOCM broadcast the event live across the province.
That event was named “Event of the Year” by MusicNL.
Yesterday, Shanneyganock’s Chris Andrews & VOCM’s Greg Smith, who represented the planning committee, presented the award to Channel Port aux Basques Mayor Brian Button, so it can be displayed in the community.
Button calls it a great honour for the southwest coast to house the award. He says it will be something they will cherish to know what it represents.
The award will live in the Bruce II Sports Centre.
Just had the honour of accepting this award on behalf of the residents of the South West Coast from the We Stand on…
