The Coalition of Persons with Disabilities and the NL Association of the Deaf are rallying at Confederation Building tomorrow, calling attention to the province’s shortage of ASL interpreters.
COD NL says deaf seniors experience extreme isolation and continued barriers to health care services and supports—and things need to change.
The advocacy group says the province only has five American Sign Language Interpreters to support the deaf community across the province.
It says language is a right and deaf seniors must have access to ASL.
They’re calling for more ASL interpreters and greater supports for deaf seniors. Tomorrow’s rally is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. at Confederation Building.
VOCM News will be there.
