Harvey’s Oil says the clean up of 980 litres of oil, spilled during a delivery to a home on Forbes Street in the capital city’s west end earlier this week, has been completed.
General Manager of Harvey’s Oil, Chris Forward says teams were on the scene for 40 hours, along with other agencies and officials to ensure that the oil did not spread further into the environment.
The oil did get into storm drains, but was pumped out to prevent it from going further downstream.
He says their emergency response plan was activated, and testing shows that product was contained to the street, and did not go past Kennedy Road.
Forward says he and other staff members took the additional step of going door-to-door in the neighbourhood to ensure that people were kept up to date on the situation and answer and questions residents might have.
An investigation is now underway into the root cause of the spill.
