The Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corporation is providing an update on progress to repairs to provincially-owned vacant housing units.
Earlier this week, PC leader Tony Wakeham raised the alarm after an access to information request revealed that, as of November 17, the number of vacant housing units in need of repair had risen to 151 from 143.
The NLHC says “significant progress” has been made on the initial 143 units in need of repair. They note that work has been completed on 63 units, and work is currently underway on an additional 56 projects.
Work on all units has been completed in the western region, and work on the remaining units across the rest of the province is expected to be completed by the end of February.
According to the NLHC, 298 units have been repaired and offered to tenants in this fiscal year.
