Snow squalls are creating dangerous driving conditions throughout the northeast Avalon and the Corner Brook region.
Traffic accidents are being reported throughout the metro region this hour, creating slow downs in many areas.
Environment Canada meteorologist, Jim Prime says high winds gusting up to 100 km/h and bands of snow are creating unpredictable conditions throughout the northeast Avalon and the west coast.
You could be driving along and everything seems fine and then hit a snow squall or an open area and your visibility is reduced to zero in mere seconds.
The snow squalls will linger through to tomorrow and Saturday with total accumulations of between 30 and 50 cm by the time it’s all over.
Higher amounts are expected in the Corner Brook region with total accumulations of up to 50 cm possible, on the Avalon total amounts could reach 30 cm.
The City of Corner Brook says snow clearing crews are out in full force and residents are being advised to stay home if they don’t need to be out at this time.
