The RNC have confirmed a number of arrests in connection with a troubling series of violent attacks in Mount Pearl in recent weeks that has the community gripped in fear.
RNC Constable James Cadigan says police have received a number of reports of robberies and violence in Mount Pearl resulting in injuries.
Chatter on social media concerning a spike in violent crime involving young people references the so-called ‘Mount Pearl Death Squad.’
Cadigan won’t comment on the name, but says in two cases, reported to have occurred on January 16 and 17, the attacks appear to have been random.
He says those who suffered injuries are not linked or known to each other and the attacks appear to be random. However the alleged perpetrators appear to be linked.
Constable Cadigan says the January 16 incident occurred outside the Reid Centre in Mount Pearl, and they’re continuing to gather information on other reports received in recent days.
He’s asking anyone with information, dash cam or surveillance video to contact RNC at 729-8000.
