Port aux Basques mayor Brian Button got an unexpected meeting with the Prime Minister during a trip to Ottawa this week.
Button paid a visit to the Parliament Building yesterday to meet with area MP Gudie Hutchings and attend a sitting of the House of Commons.
Button says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau requested a meeting with him to get an update on how the town is doing in the wake of Hurricane Fiona.
Trudeau visited the southwest coast in the days after Fiona.
The request took Button by surprise.
He says the Prime Minister found out he was in town and wanted to check in to see how the people of Port aux Basques were doing.
Button is in the nation’s capital to deliver the keynote address at a Canadian Red Cross conference.
