The Tories are slamming the governing Liberals for doing a deal with a St. John’s hotel for people who may otherwise be homeless.
Government announced a deal with Clayton Hospitality to lease the Airport Comfort Inn for $7 million a year for three years.
Opposition Leader Tony Wakeham says the hotel, according to the city’s tax records, is valued at $3.7 million, yet government leased it for six times that amount without a tender or RFP. Wakeham says they support inclusive housing initiatives, but the numbers in this deal do not add up.
He wonders if government abided by the Public Procurement Act, and says a PC government under him would eliminate Liberal sweetheart deals.
