RCMP are warning the public after becoming aware of a scam in the Bay Roberts area.
Corporal Jolene Garland says police were notified this week about a call received at the Bay Roberts detachment claiming to be from an RCMP officer raising money for homeless women and children in the province.
She says no such fundraising effort is currently underway involving RCMP.
Garland says while some members are involved in charitable efforts like food drives, they do so in-person with a uniformed officer and marked cruiser on-site. She says they never call out to raise money.
Her advice is if you do receive a call claiming to be RCMP looking for donations, hang up and contact your local RCMP detachment.
