The London Police Service has offered an apology to the victim at the centre of a sexual assault case allegedly involving five members of the 2018 Canada World Junior Hockey Team.
The woman asked that she be referred to as the victim rather than compainant or survivor.
Chief Thai Truong led a news conference today outlining the reopening of the initial investigation into the incident which occurred in June of 2018 following a Hockey Canada sanctioned event.
The initial investigation, which took place in 2018 and 2019, concluded without charges due to “insufficient grounds for a charge.” A comprehensive review was initiated over 3 years later in July of 2022.
Since then, new information has come to light and the investigation has resulted in a number of charges.
Those include:
Michael McLeod – age 26 – two counts of sexual assault
Alexander Formenton – age 24 – one count of sexual assault
Carter Hart – age 25 – one count of sexual assault
Cal Foote – age 25 – one count of sexual assault
Dillon Dube – age 25 – one count of sexual assault
All the accused made their first court appearance this morning.
Chief Truong offered his apology to the victim and to her family “for the amount of time that it has taken to reach this point.”
