A young woman was taken to hospital after the vehicle she was driving struck a utility pole on Hospital Road in Bonavista.

RCMP say the crash occurred just after 7:00 last evening, downing power lines, and the road was closed to traffic.

Newfoundland Power crews were called out to repair the damage.

The 19-year-old driver was assessed on the scene and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The road was reopened shortly after 1:00 this morning.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
