Former PC Party leader Ches Crosbie has denounced the idea of climate change as “bogus.”
Crosbie made the comment earlier this week during a federal hearing on proposed changes to the Atlantic Accord.
During the hearing, Crosbie is asked “do you believe in climate change?”
Crosbie responds by saying “having looked into the whole subject matter, i think that the theory that carbon output caused by humans is causing catastrophic climate change is bogus.”
Crosbie’s answer is followed up by the interviewer saying that, if that logic is followed, then the federal government’s energy transition is “all smoke and mirrors”—to which Crosbie replies that it is a government subsidized program to “cure a problem that doesn’t exist.”
The clip has been shared by some federal cabinet ministers, such as Seamus O’Regan and Jonathan Wilkinson, as part of their argument that the Pierre Poilievre-led Conservatives don’t believe in climate change.
It should be noted, however, that though Crosbie is an outspoken supporter of Poilievre he was not representing the CPC during the hearing.
