Cain’s Quest, billed as the world’s toughest and longest snowmobile endurance race, is a go for early March.
Normally held every two years, organizers and countless volunteers have been working hard to put together this year’s event, just a short 12 months following the last race which was abruptly disrupted by an unseasonable thaw.
Cain’s Quest Board Chair Chris Lacey says temperatures in Labrador are good, but the snow is unusually light in some areas, which will put teams to the test.
“Everybody’s going to have to be more aware of their surroundings, aware of the conditions,” says Lacey. “It’s definitely going to be more challenging for the racers…it’s going to be a good one.”
The event gets underway with a Fan Night on February 28 at the Labrador City Arena, followed by a meet and greet with the racers on February 29. Opening ceremonies take place on March 1, with the race to start on March 3 at Tanya Lake.
