The province’s Serious Incident Response Team will be collecting race-based data from affected people on each of the files they’re dealing with moving forward.

The team announced the move today, noting that it will be collected voluntarily.

Director Michael King says the collection of such data is “essential” to identifying inequalities arising from racial bias and discrimination, and guiding them in improving equity in the justice system.
