Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has begun a controlled release of water from the Upper Churchill reservoir at the Jacopie Spillway.
It’s a precautionary measure as efforts continue to keep two forest fires at bay, particularly the one nearest the town of Churchill Falls.
Fire crews continued their efforts throughout the day to focus on keeping the fire on the south side of the Churchill River, holding its perimeter.
Ground crew efforts were continuing near the Brinco Bridge, which is currently being held. Final commissioning of the industrial sprinkler system was being done, and 1.5 km of work has been completed on the fire break.
Showers are in the forecast for tomorrow and winds will be from the southwest at about 40 km/h for the next couple of days.
