Expect some intense rainfall tonight in many part of the Avalon as Hurricane Ernesto brushes past the southeast coast of the peninsula.
While the storm is fast-moving, it’s expected to dump some significant rainfall on portions of the eastern Avalon starting late this evening according to Environment Canada meteorologist David Neil.
He says the heavy rainfall is expected to start in the 9:00 to 10:00 p.m. hour on the southern Avalon and sometime between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. in the metro region.
Precipitation amounts could be in the range of 10 to 20 mm an hour with higher amounts in some areas. Fortunately, Neil says the system will move through quickly, but flash flooding is still a possibility especially in lower-lying areas.)
Neil advises drivers to postpone any travel plans during the height of the storm, as there will likely be heavy water build up on the roads at that time
