The capital city says residents and users prefer that the old slipway in Quidi Vidi be replaced with a similar, wooden structure to help maintain the village’s fishing heritage.
The city held public consultations seeking input on what to do next since the old slipway was deemed no longer safe for public use.
Feedback received focused on the fact that the slipway is important—not just to residents, but to visitors as well.
The slipway is still used to launch and bring boats ashore.
Residents of Quidi Vidi expressed frustration over the gradual erosion of the unique aspects of the fishing village following a series of poor development decisions by the city, and they fear that the slipway will be next.
In fact, residents feel so strongly about the issue, they’ve formed a Save our Slipway Facebook group to try to save it.
The public feedback received will be taken into consideration as the city decides what to do next.
