Gander mayor Percy Farwell is extending his condolences on the passing of broadcast legend Randy Snow.
Snow grew up in Gander and made his radio debut at 650 CKGA, part of the VOCM Radio Network, before moving on to OZ-FM in St. John’s.
Snow also hosted the morning show on Hits-FM before returning to OZ.
Farwell calls Snow’s passing a “big loss to thousands of people who probably never met him personally, but felt they knew him over his 40-odd years of being on the radio.”
Farwell told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, that growing up in Gander “I’ve been a friend of Randy’s just as long. He was a special guy and some of us were lucky enough to be in his personal orbit, which he didn’t maintain a large one,” choosing not to seek out the limelight.
A funeral mass will take place at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Friday, August 23rd at 2:00 p.m. Donations in his memory can be made to the Basilica or a food bank of one’s choice.
